Good morning! Let’s talk about a fun Friday night in the land of beer and cheese...

Knicks 127, Bucks 98

38-22 (W1), 16-14 on the road

It finally happened.

It took 60 games, but it finally happened.

After all the fits and starts, trials and tribulations, breakthroughs and breakdowns, the Knicks can finally say they have both a top 10 offense and a top 10 defense.

I don’t know how much this actually matters, or frankly if it matters at all. The old theory that you need to rank in the top 10 in both categories to be considered a true-blue NBA contender was disproven by the 2023 Nuggets, who finished 15th in overall defense.

Even so, I think it’s a cool little thing that’s worth enjoying, especially since it may not last long with the Spurs coming to town tomorrow afternoon.

Funny enough, in a season that started out with extensive handwringing over New York’s shoddy 3-point defense, that end of the court has almost become a secondary issue. Since January 1, a span of two full months, the vaunted Knicks’ offense has barely been above league average even though they’re still in the top three for the season.

There’s been different reasons for that - some cold shooting nights, some tougher competition, some players slumping, etc - but even the biggest optimist would admit that any path to glory will be paved with a lot of high scoring nights.

For that reason, even if this win came against the woeful Bucks (winners of eight of 10 before this shellacking, it should be noted), it was still encouraging on several fronts.
