Brogdon In, Pacome Out?

Some new reporting makes it sound like a trade is in the cards. Plus, the Knicks play a game today.

Good morning! THE KNICKS PLAY BASKETBALL TODAY! Rejoice, people, REJOICE!

(Maybe don’t hold your breath waiting for a few of the guys in that “PHILA” uniform to suit up.)

Per Mike Brown, the plan is to play the “normal” rotation in the first half and then give the rest of the guys a look in the second half. Get ready to wildly overreact to a game that doesn’t count for anything in 3…2…

In other news, Stefan Bondy dropped an insightful interview with Malcolm Brogdon yesterday, with Brodgon proclaiming loud and clear that he both expects to make the team and have a spot in the rotation. He also noted that Pacome Dadiet and Deuce McBride were the two Knicks generating the most trade buzz around the league. Dadiet’s name also came up in yesterday’s JEIII missive, which noted Dadiet as the name coming up the most in trade talks. He also said that it seems likely the Knicks would wind up keeping two veterans, thus necessitating a trade of some kind.

On that note…

Brogdon Deep Dive

Today’s question come from John Heller, who asks about the man of the hour:

Given the Brogdon momentum that is so clearly there, can we do a deep dive on his last few years? Including how being healthy and in a great situation here could help revitalize his career? How do you envision him on the team and his fit with Brown?

The funny thing is that Jon asked this question before yesterday’s Stef Bondy report. James Edwards III also told me on yesterday’s show that he believes Brogdon will make the team after his own reporting on the subject.

Clearly Jon is right about the momentum moving in Brogdon’s direction, but should it be?

That depends on what Malcolm Brogdon the Knicks are getting. If it’s the same guy who won the 6th Man of the Year award over Immanuel Quickley two years ago, or even 85-90 percent of that player, then its a no brainer. That guy was in the 88th percentile for efficiency among combo guards league-wide according to Cleaning the Glass and had the fourth highest 3-point percentage among all NBA players who attempted at least 50 threes, going 132-for-297 from deep. He also boasted sterling assist and turnover rates, the latter of which has always been a hallmark of his. On top of all that, simply being the third leading scorer on a 57-win team is nothing to sneeze at.

Even with those glossy numbers though, it wasn’t all great in Boston.
