Halfway Home
At the midpoint of the NBA offseason, we're officially halfway through 25 for 25. Today we get to the hardest player to rank of them all.
Good morning all. Another quiet August week is halfway done. On the bright side, its almost hoodie weather.
Let’s get to it.
25 for 25: No. 13 - Karl-Anthony Towns
For as much as I always try to push the conversation about the Knicks forward, there are moments in my life at KFS when I think I should be singing the lyrics to Taylor Swift’s Antihero.
The most recent one came about two and a half months ago.
With the Knicks’ ouster at the hands of the Indiana Pacers still fresh in the rearview mirror, I contemplated what major changes, if any, I’d make to the roster given the likely available options.
The one name I kept coming back to was Kevin Durant, and in conjunction with KD, Karl-Anthony Towns.
My logic was pretty simple. KAT was supposed to turn the Knicks into an offensive juggernaut, and far too often after the start of the new year, they simply weren’t anything close to that. Defensively, every minute of those 18 playoff games that Towns was on the floor felt like a high wire act. One false move would lead to an open three or a dunk. If New York couldn’t win four playoff rounds with KAT at the five, then why not swap him out for maybe the most dangerous big wing in the game, even if he was approaching his 37th birthday?
Right about then, reports started emerging that the Knicks were out on the Durant sweepstakes before it even began. Not long after, KD was traded to Houston for a package that I would politely describe as underwhelming considering how good Durant was last season when he was healthy.
And that’s when it hit me.
It's me, hi, I'm the problem, it's me1.
