It was 2:28 in the morning as I sat down to write this newsletter.

As such, my research skills are not as sharp as they might otherwise be.

If they were, I’d be able to start off this missive properly, and tell you exactly how many games had been played in all of NBA history before last night.

Alas, I don’t have that exact number.

But I assure you, it’s a lot.

What I can say is that in all of that time, over all of those games, never before has a player accomplished what Jalen Brunson did in Phoenix on Friday night.

50 points. Nine shots from downtown. Nine makes from downtown.

He is now in his own club - the only player to pull off that specific feat.

We can also expand the parameters a bit and look at Brunson’s total stat line, which puts him in line with a few other players of note…

…but at the end of the day, it’s all a waste of time.

Because last night’s 139-122 come from behind win over the Phoenix Suns wasn’t about the numbers.

It was about the message that was sent, on this stage, against this team.
