Good morning! I hope you’re having a great day, although somehow I don’t think you’re having quite as good of a day as one Knick in particular…
🗣️ News & Notes ✍️
🏀 Josh Hart, go get that bag.
Announced yesterday by Woj, Hart’s new four-year, $81 million extension cannot officially be signed until today, the sixth-month anniversary of his trade to the Knicks. When he signs it, Hart will more than double his career earnings with the stroke of a pen.
It’s a moment we saw coming not just when Hart picked up his $12.96 million option before the start of free agency, thus giving the Knicks the necessary cap room to sign his former college teammate Donte DiVincenzo, but months earlier, when New York’s front office traded for a player they knew could hit the open market after less than a third of the season. We had a sense even then that the former Laker, Pelican and Blazer wouldn’t be shedding his blue and orange anytime soon.
As for the details on the contract, we still don’t have any, with Woj reporting that “sides are working thru the final details.” I assume this means that some of the $81 million (which is the most Hart could have extended for under the CBA) will wind up being tied to incentives and/or the last year of the deal will either be an option or not fully guaranteed, but we shall see.
For now, we’ll examine the contract based on what we know, and take a look at where this dollar amount places Hart in terms of other players signed for roughly the same money.
