Nitty Gritty
The Knicks finally showed some fourth quarter grit in pulling out a victory against the Sixers.
Good morning! We’ll have a full recap of the Sixers win below, but first a reminder that the Knicks are in the midst of their first back to back of the season, as they’ll top off tonight at 7:30 against the Bulls. I may be going to the game, but if not, check the Substack chat for a halftime zoom link tomorrow. Otherwise I’ll see everyone at halftime on Friday.
Game 10: Knicks 111, Sixers 99
Joel Embiid loses again
New York’s 15 turnovers through three quarters kept Philly in it, as did the Sixers going 17-for-17 from the line in the first half
The Knicks made almost all of the big plays in the fourth
This was a balanced scoring attack, with six players netting 14 or more and OG leading the way with 24
Josh Hart had a triple double
Towns dominated with the scoring early and ruled with his passing late.
Jalen Brunson rolled an ankle early in the second half but returned to the game to shake of a dreadful start and finish strong.
Well that’s more like it.
Coming off perhaps their most dispiriting loss of the year, the Knicks finally closed a game like a team to be reckoned with.
Entering the fourth quarter up only three in a game they should have been winning by at least double digits, New York did what good teams do: they shut the door. By starting the fourth quarter on an 11-0 run and holding the Sixers to just two points in the first five and a half minutes of the final frame, the Knicks proved that they possess some mettle after all.
They may have just needed a little while to find it.
