Good morning! Knicks and Wolves will tip off tonight at 7:30, but the party gets started at T2 Social an hour earlier. Come on down if you’re around:
As for the game, Donte is out with a toe sprain, while KAT remains questionable with his sore thumb. Should be an interesting night regardless.
Perspective
Lots of thoughts swirling around in my head this morning as New York prepares to welcome two former franchise fixtures back into the building. I guess that’s as good a place to start as any.
The first significant “return” game I remember was Patrick Ewing, who came back to a rousing three-minute standing ovation during pre-game intros wearing that hideous red Sonics warmup. He started off the game pretty well too, but it quickly went downhill from there, and he wound up being badly outplayed by the man who took his job, Marcus Camby.
Not that it really mattered. Seattle was a middling .500 team that was at the start of a decade-long drought, even if they didn’t realize it yet. That was part of the sadness of Ewing’s departure. They weren’t sending him to a contending team where he might finally be able to get that elusive ring. They were sending him out to pasture.
There have been other notable returns since Patrick’s - some more pleasant than others - but I’m not sure anything rises to the level of what we’re going to see tonight.
