In any case, it’s a been a busy few weeks considering not much has actually happened. So...What'd I Miss?
Guess who’s back!
Aside from a few preambles, this is the first newsletter I’ve written since the Friday mailbag two and a half weeks ago. I’m fairly certain that’s the longest I’ve gone without writing about the Knicks since well before I started penning this newsletter nearly six years ago. Not only that, but I really didn’t spend very much time thinking about them for the entire time I was off. I kept my Twitter alerts on, but those were very much “in one ear, out the other.”
The hiatus was necessary. While this certainly wasn’t my hardest year covering the team, it was easily the most overwhelming. In retrospect, I definitely lost sight of the forest for the trees by the end, even as I attempted to sum up and understand what was in many ways the most important Knicks season of my lifetime.
Putting a pin in the balloon over the last 17 days was a great way to both reset and recalibrate, although I did feel like a bit of a fraud in the process. One of the main hallmarks of fandom is the responsibility we feel to sweat the small stuff. As I was savoring my umpteenth sip of wine while taking in one Amalfi sunset after another, any potential consternation over New York’s offseason amounted to a mouse fart in a windstorm. My guilt poureth over.
Alas, if paradise didn’t come with an expiration date, it wouldn’t be paradise at all.
