My left pinky toe.
My kids’ college fund.
Ever getting to eat pizza again.
These are just a few of the things I’d contemplate giving up to experience just one Knicks championship parade in my lifetime.
I just turned 42, and the average lifespan of an American male is 76, so the list will likely grow larger as the years go by.
The very concept of a single Knicks title is such a far off concept that I envision myself spontaneously combusting if it ever actually happens.
I imagine this was a similar feeling to Red Sox fans in 2004, Eagles fans in 2018, and Warriors fans in 2015, all of whom ended notable championship droughts. Since those title-winning seasons, all three organizations have made it back to the promised land. With every one of those additional triumphs, I wonder how it must feel to have said “now I can die in peace,” only to make it back again (and in some cases, again…and again…and again).
It’s probably something Mike Brown has thought about once or twice.
