Good morning! We know what today’s topic is. Let’s get to it.
The Mitch Mailbag
Yesterday afternoon, I put out a call for questions in the immediate aftermath of the news that Mitchell Robinson would be gone through at least December. As usual, you did not disappoint.
Will Stern starts off our ten-pack of questions with his version of a haiku:
1. Why
2. Please no
3. Make it stop
Make it stop? We’re just getting started! Next up, a question from JewAnon:
Should Deuce be looking at houses in Utah or Charlotte?
Hey…at least he’s only renting in New York.
Seriously though, I think the Mitch news ends the remote possibility of a Kessler trade, at least until the trade deadline. If Ainge’s price was already sky high (and it surely was), now he’ll be demanding a bigger return than he got for Rudy Gobert.
The same basic premise goes for Charlotte, who I’m sure will up the price on Nick Richards ever so slightly in light of this report. I also remain unconvinced the Knicks have ever viewed Richards as a significant enough upgrade over what they already have in-house to pay whatever the Hornets were asking (to say nothing of the fact that if they weren’t going acquire Richards via signing & trading Precious, the only way to make the math work in the offseason would have been to include Deuce. This will change once minimums can be combined for salary purposes starting on December 15, which is a date everyone should mark on their calendars, although the Knicks don’t currently have two minimum contracts that add up to Richards’ $5 million salary, and they are barred from sending out more salary than they take back in a trade).
Next up, a question from Daniel:
Will the Knicks apply for an injury exception in this case, and what are the chances of it being approved?
