Let’s start here: If the Knicks allow OG Anunoby to walk in free agency without getting anything in return, it would, in the moment, represent the biggest blow the organization has sustained since they lost out on Kevin Durant five years ago.
Now that I’ve got your attention, lets unpack that statement a bit.
First and foremost, Durant picking the Nets over the Knicks wound up benefiting the franchise immensely. It led to the hiring of Leon Rose and all the good stuff that has transpired since.
But in the moment, it felt like the ultimate gut punch. This situation is no different.
