Trade Aftermath

Lots of thoughts on what we know, and mostly on what we don't.

Lot’s going on today (catch me with Ian Begley on SNY’s the Putback at noon, and also keep an eye out for a new episode of Katz & Shoot with me and Fred which will be dropping later today….oh, and come watch the draft with me at Penn 6 tonight on 31st & 7th!), but in any case, I wanted to get out a rather utilitarian newsletter before all of that.

First things first…

I cannot emphasize enough that this trade is not yet final, nor can it be final until the league moratorium lifts on July 6.

Yes, as of now, the Knicks are hard capped at the first apron, which means they have very little wiggle room to sign OG Anunoby (more on him in a bit) and fill out the rest of their roster, as Bobby Marks aptly lays out here:

If we go by this, and assume OG’s salary for next season is somewhere in the range of $35 million, then even if New York dealt both first round picks for future draft assets, the empty roster charges alone would leave them only a few million to work with under the hard cap.

But as Marks said, this is fluid and can (and likely will) change.

Let’s talk about how.
