Who Should be the Fifth Starter?
One of my favorite moments from doing pods with the great Jeremy Cohen over the years came a few summers ago.
We were talking about the latest rumored roster upgrade and lamenting the fact that we couldn’t just enjoy this team as it was. He summed up that feeling up perfectly by quoting the classic Don Draper line from Mad Men:
"What is happiness? It's a moment before you need more happiness."
It may seem like an odd quote following the first preseason game in a year where the main roster components are more or less set in stone. After decades of seeking the next big thing, we have finally arrived at a finish line of sorts.
But that doesn’t mean people won’t end the eternal search for happiness.
As we continue the march towards opening night, the form I see that search taking - in some corners, but certainly not all - is a push for Deuce McBride to start over Josh Hart.
