You can’t take too much from the Detroit game, because they really weren’t playing an NBA team. Sure, they have a few nice young pieces, especially in the backcourt, but NBA teams don’t shoot 4-15 from the line, including missing their first 7, and let their opponents shoot close to 60% in the first half.

You play the schedule they give you, and with this one you take the win and just turn the page.

We have Orlando and then Charlotte at home this week, two games we should have, and two games we actually need given the brutal 7 game stretch that follows, all playoff teams, with 5 of those 7 on the road.

So now isn’t the time for them to feel good about themselves and sleep on either of these next two opponents. This week is all about taking care of business.

Starting next week, we really get put to the test.

Agree on taking the Detroit game with a few grains of salt. As for the Magic and Hornets, they better take those teams VERY seriously.

Just saying, I was more than corned when Pistons got the score to 12. Not too much earlier Knicks up by 19, my wife was banished from the room, for uttering the Knicks look good. When it went to 12 I was tempted to go tell her see what you did. But she already considered me a prick, so I thought why blow 50 years of marriage. I saw an interview of Rick Brunson by Derek Harper, while Jalen was still on Dallas. He said Jalen has improved on every level, HS, College and thinks he will continue to improve on the Pro Level. I’m very excited this team is completely different than last year.

50 years of marriage vs the Knicks...close call. Think you made the right decision. Inspiration for my wife and I as we happily approach year nine!

Thoughts on seeing Ivey ‘in person’ ? Do you think they should have done more to move up and get him ? I know the sample size is very small so defer if you wish.

I can't answer that question without knowing what the cost would have been, or if it was ever really even on the table, but in short, I think he's clearly got All-Star potential. It all comes down to the shot.

I attended the game. I was very impressed by Ivy’s willingness to move the rock and get other involved. I think he finished with seven assists. His scoring ability was very opportunistic, somewhat similar to RJ- catch and go, screens into torquey drives. He had a nice drive and kick game all the while going full speed. He’s going to need to develop a shot off the dribble game, something RJ is lacking as well.

Would he help this team...? In a reserve role sure. He has no jumper or refined moves but he could def move the ball and rack up some assists. He def couldn’t run the first unit but I could see him running with Obi. I don’t think we missed the next Morant though. He wasn’t billed as a true PG coming out but I think the NBA game necessitated him becoming more of a PG at his size for the position and lack of diversity in his offensive game. Moving up for Ivy to plug in as a reserve, with hopeful-educated scouting projecting Ivy as a future all star-starter didn’t compute prob. with Detroit’s asking price. If that ceiling was evident the knicks would of pounced, think Mavs moving up for Luka.

Disclaimer: Lol, all thoughts are this Knick’s fan personal opinion and in no way shape or form factual.

The situation in Detroit is perfect for him, alongside a guy who can run the offense in Cade. The question is what is Ivey (or Cade, for that matter) doing when they don't have the ball. The fact that both are questionable shooters could become an issue, I fear. As you point out, he isn't Morant, and anyone making that comp was doing so irresponsibly. Nowhere near the same stratosphere of passer in college. All in all, I don't think we'll be looking back like we missed out on Luka.

Great article as it really hammers home the point that the Knicks have been lacking at a crucial position for years. And signing Brunson was their best signing since, who? Allan Houston, probably. But as Quickley said, the leadership extends from the floor to off the court and that has been lacking for years. Still think they should have traded for Mitchell and then they’d have an all-star backcourt.

Thanks as always for the kind words! Best signing since Houston at least, and Houston was complicated by the extension, which was not great.
