I've been saying this over and over again....Jeter, MO, Petitte, Posada, Bernie were not stars. They won in '96, then BECAME stars! This team has that '96 Yankee vibe. They hadn't been good in over a decade, and only WE knew how good they were before they won it all. This team has the EXACT same feel! #whynotus
I was thinking about this last night. My conclusion was that this team has 1995 Yankee vibes. Reaaaaaaallly close. Not quite there yet. Also reminds me of the first Riley year. A team that’s not afraid of anybody and willing to impose their will on the opponent
Thank you! And I gave you a shout out on yesterday’s postgame for first bringing up the DeBusschere / Hart comp...I’m really starting to buy into that level of impact!
Thank you . . . It really seems more and more apt. Btw, Dave D was also constant motion and if they tracked stats the same way as they do know, he’d also fill up the stat sheet just like Hart.
Sometimes, a player comes to a team at the right time in both the player’s growth and the team’s emergence. Just like both Dave DeB and Josh Hart.
All I know is it feels really good to be a Knicks fan right now.
Hart isn't as good as DeBusschure (who after Bill Russell retired was the best defensive player in the league IMO) but the impact has been the same. Someone said in We Here that after the Knicks got Rose they believed they could beat anyone. That wasn't true but what's important is THEY believed it. So maybe Josh Hart's impact is a mix of DeBusschure and Rose.
That's a great call Tim. And all I can go on is the accolades for DDB, but making all defense 1st team every year the honor was in existence seems to indicate he was pretty good
I was listening to The Lowe Post and they were talking about Lonzo Ball being the connector for the Bulls, hence a very Knicks like season for them without him...
Ironically in the post game yesterday, Thibs called Brunson the “connector” for the team. He’s the one that connects everything and everyone together. #Brunnector
Ahhhhh yes. Good call. And you know what’s funny, I had the thought as I was writing that the ACL was pre-ASG, but not while I was penning that line. Mentally draining day!
We travel to the Land of Cleves on March 31, for a playoff-type game.
Looking at the schedule, the Cavaliers have only 2 easy games of the 9 remaining. Okay they have 2 against Orlando, but don't think Banchero's boys won't be a big headache for the Cavs. Also they have the Magic on Tues.-Thurs. of one week and the Nets on Tues.-Thurs. of another week. It will be tough to sweep those teams. I like our chances of getting home-court advantage.
Thanks for the bonus treat Jon. Tomorrow night can't come soon enough. By my account it seems like this team may have been "blown out" on three occasions. The last time was the first meeting versus Dallas. It's been told time again that what has happened since that game has defined this season and the playoff potential of this team.
If that number still remains at three by seasons end which I believe will be the case very much. How many other teams in this league stands with the Knicks with least amount of blow out losses or losses by sixteen points or more?? In addition where does that put them in history compared to other tough playoff teams in the past?
I know two years ago that team has the same intestinal fortitude. The difference to me is that this year is at much more elite level. The evidence is the many better teams they have bettered in the process. Something we used to dream about alot two year ago. That's all Jon, I thought that topic of where they stand with other teams of the least amount of bad losses would make for an interesting newsletter down the road.
Dom it’s something that I’ve thought about a bunch. I don’t think there would be any realistic way for me to do it other than sort by final margin of victory (otherwise I’d be parsing through 30 teams’ game logs and figuring out whether a 12 point loss was secretly a close game or was actually a blowout). Seems like a worthy task.
Yeah I understand. For die hard Knicks fans who don't miss many games or any to disect the Knicks W/L column would be the easy task if going by the eye test. Which is why I went with three. First Brooklyn game, first Phoenix game, and the first Dallas game where it appeared they let go of the rope. Maybe it goes hand in hand with their top seven net rating. And that should opposing playoff teams the most concern of if not being unsettled.
At the least being worn out before getting right into their next round. They really are just a superstar away unless of course one of our big three has another leap in themselves. I am not going to discount anything anymore. Thank you again Jon.
Sometimes I wonder if our most realistic path to getting a superstar is Brunson just becoming one
It certainly seems that way as Brunson gets his own team. I definitely see a superstar emerging.
Also, besides his talent Brunson also shows the kind of leadership you want from your superstar.

He’s a mold-breaker, I know that.
With the combo of recent-ish moves and trades and the likely trade candidates I think internal improvement is the best option.
Bang! Bang! Great newsletter Jonathan!!

It’s been a fantastic season. Keep up the great work. Love the newsletter and the podcasts!
Thanks Andrew!

“But only one of the two - Porzingis - went on to make the 2018 All-Star team, while Jokic watched from home.”
Sadly, they both actually watched from home lol.
Great job on this.

Honesty I'm fine being the underdog to the cavs as the 5 seed. Might actually prefer it tbh
42-30 record. They are 20-16 at home and 22-14 on the road.
Clevelands kinda had the weird same team double dip going on for a bit. They're probably used to it. I'm more confident that we'll stick at 5.

Fantastic news letter. What a win , what a team!
Thank you sir!
I was hoping to see Deuce on Murry.
