So if I’m inferring things correctly, it sounds like our defense absolutely craters when KAT sits, dropping from 12th to the mid-low 20s (avg of 18th, KAT playing 3/4+ of the game, non KAT mins must be bad). I’m absolutely convinced that Mitch can help that. And if it leads to fewer unbalanced over-rotations or less collapsing into the paint bc there’s an actual rim protector, it may cut down on open 3s as the 3rd or 4th pass will not go to AS wide-open a shooter. Rim protection remains a Thibs-priority. Not having a star-quality rim protector is our biggest missing piece IMO.
It is 2.2 points per 100 possessions. So over 100 possessions it is essentially one bucket worse. It is amazing that the difference between 12 th and low 20s is so small a number but I would not say it exactly craters. As a question to Jon I also wonder if those stats are the ones that exclude garbage time. If not, the stats would be even less meaningful. What I am personally curious to see is both Mitch and Kat and hoping that improvement is akin to Gobert/Kat (though I am cognizant of the Hart issue Jon mentioned).
I find that encouraging… my belief is that Mitch / a true rim-protecting big can more than make up that difference. In fact, im hoping our defensive lineups w/out KAT at the 5 become significantly better than our defense w KAT at the 5, so 12th should be the worst of it, not the best.
This will be the most anticlimactic post ASG we’ve had in some time. Gonna be like spring training. All I’ll be looking for and hoping for is complete health going into the playoffs. Seeing if Thibs can even mildly be more aware of the larger goal will be interesting. My gut tells me Thibs is gonna Thibs but with a slightly smarter eye on the prize.
Jon - Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Your pod with Fred Katz spent a lot of time discussing the problems with the Josh Hart lineups. If we can't beat the Cavs or the Celtics this weekend, isn't trying something different vs the Cavs or Celtics the biggest issue for the rest of the season?

My top 5 would include whether OG is as healthy as it seems. Back to practicing seems very encouraging. It it was such a weird injury.
Hi Jon. Pacers are fourth not fifth.
