This is really well written! Ainge goes all in like he's playing fantasy basketball. I see drafting parallels in dating and careers. You got a little information, and can see a little ways down the road, but really, we're making life decisions, or in this case organizational ones, based on some awesome class discussions and a really good string of dates. It might work out and you'll end up with a loving partner and great job, or you might end up with Raef LaFrentz's corner threes.
Terrific post today! If you talk to Boston Celtics fans many remember for NOT doing anything as for doing anything. Ainge has sat on prime draft assets for years while fans screamed for him to trade those picks for the likes of George and Leonard when those players could have taken the Celtics to the top. Even the famous deal acquiring Garnett came down, to a degree, with being best buds with the Timberwolves’ GM, Kevin McHale.
The Knicks have a ton of assets — the eight eligible first round picks, as well as talented young guys like RJ, Obi, Quickley, Grimes — so there is no reason to make a bad trade. Keep building and if an apparent superstar, title-driver becomes available, go try to get him, if not, keep building.
Thanks, Danny's [trading] street cred is great, but the reality is actually meh. He [former Blue Jay 3rd baseman] hit homers with KG and Ray. But, Minny did what Minny does in exiling their franchise icon; they're pathetic. And, Presti didn't really want Ray in his prime; young Green had a lot of promise. Walker had just gotten the Celtics' first round pick, Chauncey Billups mixed up in a nasty sexual assault incident that prior season. So, he wasn't exactly a veteran leader you want in your locker room. Ainge wanted him GONE. Does he want Mitchell gone? Yeah, maybe he wants endless picks, but could Donovan be a player to build around? We shall see...
[As a fan from the days of antiquity the Old Garden, pre-DeBusschere Trade---I'd rather just keep our guys and build. I don't believe in negotiating with hostage takers like Ainge.]
What a masterpiece Jon bravo 👏 This might of been the best stuff you put together. I told you on Twitter earlier that you and Jeremy really got me thinking after watching your YouTube video. Now after reading this I have a deeper sense of understanding what this guy values. Maybe there is more reason for hope that Obi, IQ, and Q can form a new Bench Mobb behind Spida. I have to tell you Jon I really think you should consider doing a book on something related to the history of the Knicks. I am sure I am not the first person to be telling you this. Reading your stuff have been a joy even during those miserable 18-19 to 19-20 seasons.

Belatedly, but this comment made my day :)
