At some point, Leon Rose is going to cash in his chips. Is draft night the best opportunity he'll have? Or is Jaden Ivey a risk he can't afford to take? Plus, major news in Utah.
The key is what will Sacramento want and what are the Knicks willing to give up. If they are in love with Ivey...I'd give up the 11th plus a protected 1st rounder (having some confidence that the Knicks aren't terrible and it doesn't turn into a high pick!)...but which players. I love Quickley, Obi and Grimes...but I think you'd have to sacrifice one of them along with Reddish (hope Sacramento buys into his potential). If Ivey is a stud then I'd say it's worth it. At some point the Knicks need to make a swing for the fences! Having said all that I hope Sacramento takes less!
I would say if we have the opportunity to move up to 4 without giving up much assets then I would do so b/c we need a building block at the point guard position and I am not sold on Brunson enough to put that kind of $$ on him no matter what the connections we have plus I am not sure if Thibs would like a guy like DRussell if the wolves make him available for trade and we make a trade for him. This has been a problem for us forever no matter what band aids we have put in the past. I say move up to #4 to get Ivey if we have the chance or look @ Portland's pick @7 for either Mathurin or Daniels as Daniels could solve our problems as well at the PG position. Mathurin gives us a building block.
Agree with Steve. MUCH rather trade up for Mathurin or Murray. I'd even take Daniels at 5 because if he figures out how to shoot, he's a star, and he really seemed to be figuring it out towards the end of the year.... Also isn't next next years' draft the infamous double-draft, i.e., looking to be much stronger than this year's? Maybe going all in on next year's draft, where we have 2 picks in what is expected to be a deep and loaded draft, in the better move...
It originally was going to be but not anymore. That said, the '23 class is expected to be a very good one. For that reason though, I wonder whether a potential Knicks pick in that draft would be especially appealing for other teams.
I'm not sold on Ivey and willing to give up tons of assets to move up. Mathurin offers just as much upside if he corrects his weaknesses and it would take alot less to move up for him, assuming he doesn't fall to 11.
I think Mathurin is going to help teams for a long time, but he isn't going to be an engine for a good offense. Ivey may not be either, but if he fixes his issues, there's a ceiling there I'm not sure anyone else in this class can reach.
Thanks. I hope you [and any of the KFS Crew this applies to] have a great Father's Day. On Mitchell and Bryant remember the recent Knick past: Knicks assistant could be key to landing Kevin Durant: Royal Ivey shares close bond with Warriors star, says HS coach /https://sny.tv/articles/knicks-assistant-could-be-key-to-landing-kevin-durant. Royal Ivey!
Why can't Knick fans and media stop with the magical thinking that a star will come to take us to the NBA Promised Land. Let's just support the efforts to build a world class organization and talent. When the infrastructure is built a star will come, without any other inducement than staring on 7th Avenue at the [self entitled] World's Most Famous Arena.
Losing Bryant might hurt. But, 2 other head coaching candidates---Jamahl Mosley with the Magic and Ime Udoka with Boston---turned out alright. Ime better than alright! There's no shortage of coaching talent in the NBA, College, and in Europe. Leon and Wes will find a very good replacement for Thibs when that day comes.
So, Knick fans should just sit back, relax, obsess about the draft [hoping for the best player available regardless of position], Vegas, and wait for Training Days.
I would be surprised if Portland could not get (and would not prefer) Jerami Grant for the number 7. I guess your proposed three way deal also lets them keep the 11, but they give up Josh Hart, which I reckon offsets that. If we can pull this off, I suspect it will be straight up with the Kings and the multiple draft pick route, plus younger talent (Grimes, Reddish, or even IQ). Or they might need to make it Obi, plus the pick. I like Jaden Ivey a lot, but I reckon any deal that gets him will be painful.

To me, guys like Ivey don't come around often. I'd take the risk.

In case I didn't make my feelings clear, I'd 100% move up for Ivey
Oh no you have so no questions there. Just putting my 2 cents in for the first time on one of your threads. :-)
Thanks for chiming in...it is always appreciated!

Be cool, Jonathan.
