Jonathan, would it be good to make sure the deal that they make for Brunson goes over the cap. So they are able to bring Mitch in as well? Do you also see with all the picks that we have piled up, another move being made for maybe another wing. (OG Annuoby / Wiggins - If GS wants to part with him due to their own finances/someone else). I can see another move happening and not just ending with JB. But if we do get Brunson & Mitch. Then the wing would be our own necessity unless the Knicks keep Cam and give him a try considering we gave up a first round for him.
They definitiely need a wing, i'd be surprised if they get one today. And the Mitch contract will definitely get them back over the cap. Benefit of a small cap hold with no restrictions on how big a contract can be :)
Given how many episodes of Cap or No Cap and CREAM pointed to the ways in which teams w cap space can help facilitate complicated trades as a third team, how few teams have any space, and the news out of Brooklyn, what is the chance that the Knicks will act as a 3rd-team facilitator in a Kyrie S/T, and what kind of assets do you think we’d receive in exchange if so? I know we don’t tend to help Brooklyn, but …
Question: Why couldn't the Knicks use the stretch provision on a vets contract. Taking a $10M contract down to $3.3 over three years and creating new cap space of 6.7M. So the 16.3M cap space becomes $23-24M? No trade required?
What about the salary cap on Dallas side. JB is base year, as you have written at length before. Can they take back all these combos for a base year? And, for the same reason, can they create a massive traded player exception by taking back less salary.
I don’t see a Randle trade till trade deadline at earliest. I imagine they hope he regains some part of his market value this year
Sitting with my fingers crossed. Moving in any of these deals, opens up playing time for youngsters. Except those playing behind Brunson. Have a feeling if Mark Cuban is involved Mavs won’t work out a deal with the Knicks. But then again they walked away from KP.
On a side note, if (when?) Kyrie gets traded, hopefully not to the Knicks, and then perhaps Durant wants out, how many less Jersey Nets jerseys do we see walking around the 5 boroughs ? 50% ? 75% ? Higher ?
Maybe this new cap space could open a door for Tyus Jones, Dejounte Murray or Brunson. I’m just hoping there’s more than one plan in place, because this feels too much like 2010.
Hey Jon what do you think about a trade centered around John Collins and Randle. Collins seems as good as gone, salary’s are similar and positions are the same.
Can’t the contracts the Knicks want to move be traded into other team’s trade exceptions? That would significantly expand the number of possible trade partners beyond the handful that have actual cap space.

Mean to answer this before but I guess it's a moot point now...for the moment at least...

They could I just doubt they will because Aller would sooner kill himself than willingly have dead money on the cap for a non-contender
Yes, but wouldn't it would save a 2nd round draft pick we use as compensation to the team accepting a vet and their contract?
my gut feeling is that they'd rather give up a second than have $3+ million in dead cap sitting on their books for the next 3 years

Yes, I accounted for the BYC of Brunson, but forgot Dallas is a taxpayer, which *slightly* adjusts some of this (I'll add an addendum tomorrow).

Ha. I think kids will still wear the ones they have, but good luck selling new ones...
Please please please please let it be the Randle option.
there's a reason I keep trying to write this into existence

Great question Sean. If we can do this without any other help at all, it, at minimum, increases the leverage.
